Get support that fits your lifestyle

Begin in a space that already feels like home

Therapy shouldn't be one more thing your life can't make room for. We've made space for it instead.

You’ve been thinking about it for a while. Maybe months. Maybe longer. But something keeps getting in the way: the drive, the schedule, the kids, the cost of carving out two hours of your day for one hour of help. So you’ve kept moving, kept managing, kept telling yourself you’ll get to it eventually.

At The Marriage & Family Institute, we've built online therapy in Ohio around the life you have, so support is there at the click of a button from the comfort of your own space.

What Makes Telehealth Therapy With Us Different?

Our telehealth services reach across the entire state of Ohio, from Columbus to Cleveland, Toledo to Cincinnati, and every small town and suburb in between. If you can find a quiet space and a stable connection, you can work with us.

All of our Ohio therapists offer online sessions, which means you have access to our full team no matter where you live. That’s a wider range of specialties, approaches, and personalities than most local practices can offer, particularly outside the larger cities. You’re not limited to whoever happens to be in your area; you get to find the therapist who’s the right fit for you.

We treat online therapy with the same care we bring to our in-person work. Every session uses a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform, your therapist is fully present for the hour, and the work itself, the listening, the slow building of trust, the shifts that come with time, doesn’t change because of the screen between you.

How Online Therapy in Ohio Can Help

Our therapists draw on a wide range of evidence-based approaches, tailored to what you’re working through. Sessions are shaped around where you are, both literally and emotionally, and built to help you develop the insight and skills that lead to lasting change.

Anxiety can make everyday life feel overwhelming. In online therapy in Ohio, we work together to understand what’s fueling those feelings and develop practical strategies to help you feel calmer, more focused, and better able to handle daily challenges.

When depression makes everything feel heavier, even reaching out can feel like too much. That’s part of why telehealth therapy in Ohio matters: it lowers the barrier to starting therapy. Together, we’ll explore what’s been weighing on you and gently rebuild a sense of energy, motivation, and connection.

Trauma can shape how safe you feel in your own life, sometimes in ways you can’t fully name. Our virtual therapists in Ohio are trained in approaches that help you process what happened, calm your nervous system, and gradually restore a sense of trust in yourself and the people around you, all from the comfort of a space you already feel safe in.

Relationships need attention, and sometimes they need help. We offer online couples therapy, family therapy, premarital counseling, and coparenting support for partners and families across Ohio. Online sessions make it easier for both partners to show up consistently, even when schedules don’t line up, or you live in different parts of the state.

Children and teens often carry more than they can put into words. Online child therapy and teen therapy in Ohio can be a comfortable entry point, particularly for younger clients who feel more at ease in their own room. We work with families to make sure the experience feels safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.

For neurodivergent clients, the flexibility of online therapy is often a gift. No fluorescent waiting rooms, no overstimulating commutes, and no extra sensory overload before the session even begins. You can meet with us from a space that already feels familiar and manageable, so your energy can go toward the work itself.

Our Approach

How Online Therapy in Ohio Works

After you book your first session, you’ll get a secure link by email and text, no app required, no setup beyond clicking when it’s time. The session itself is about understanding what brought you here, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re hoping might shift.

From there, we work with you to create a plan that fits your goals, your schedule, and your comfort level. We typically suggest 10 to 12 sessions to start, enough time to build skills, gain insight, and begin to feel meaningful change.

Therapy isn’t linear, and your plan won’t be either. As you grow, we adjust. As life shifts, we shift with it. Each online therapy session is a step toward feeling more like yourself, more capable, more at home in your own life.

Common Questions About Online Therapy in Ohio

We recommend downloading the Simple Practice app to make scheduling and joining online therapy sessions easier, but it’s not required. We’ll also send you a session link by email and text before each appointment, so you can join from your browser if that’s simpler for you.

Just a device with a camera and microphone, so a computer, tablet, or smartphone all work. A pair of headphones can help with privacy and audio quality, but they aren’t necessary.

It happens. If your connection drops or something stops working, your virtual Ohio therapist will help you switch to a hotspot or move the session to a phone call so you don’t lose your time. We’ve seen most issues, and we know how to roll with them.

No. Sessions aren’t recorded. You’ll be asked to sign a practice and policy agreement before starting, and if there’s ever a reason to have someone observe a session, it would only happen with your written consent.

Yes. For couples therapy, family therapy, or coparenting work, the session link can be shared with anyone involved in treatment, so each person can join from wherever they are. That’s one of the quiet benefits of online therapy in Ohio; you don’t all need to be in the same room to do the work together.

A growing body of research suggests that telehealth therapy can be as effective as in-person work for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. What matters most is the connection between you and your therapist, and that comes through clearly across a screen.

Honestly, more than people expect. Kids and teens are often more themselves in their own room than they’d be in an office, and that can make a real difference in how the work goes. We adjust the format to fit their age, keep the screen time manageable, and build in breaks when they need them. Parents stay in the loop, and if we think your child would do better seeing someone in person, we’ll say so.

Most sessions run 50 to 55 minutes, the same length as our in-person sessions. Couples and family sessions can sometimes run longer, and your Ohio therapist will let you know what to expect when you’re getting started. We’ll also suggest a frequency that fits where you are in the work, often weekly at first, then easing off as things stabilize.

We currently accept Ohio Healthy for individual services and offer courtesy out-of-network billing for most other plans. Many clients receive partial reimbursement from their insurance for online therapy, since most Ohio insurers now cover telehealth at the same rate as in-person care. We’re happy to walk you through what your specific plan covers before your first session.

Fit matters more than almost anything else in therapy, and it’s hard to know for sure until you’re in a session together. We offer a free consultation so you can get a feel for your therapist before committing. If something doesn’t click after the first few sessions, tell us. We can talk it through, adjust the approach, or match you with someone else on our team. Finding the right person is part of the work, and we don’t take that personally.
